  • We've recently been getting really into building our own gear. We just got done with a rack full of API pres and some nice Neve and Jensen clone pres as well. Our favorite new piece that we've been putting through the paces is our new 1176, that thing just rocks on everything. And just now we're starting to spec out the circuits for a console we're gonna build ourselves from the ground up. Think API pres on every channel, Neve EQ's on every channel (we may go with an old Motown design that Tony took from his years with them), optical compression and Kepex-style gating on every channel, fully balanced signal all the way through, from pres to auxes to inserts. It's gonna be about a year before we have all the schematics and PCB layouts down, and probably a few months worth of building, testing, calibrating, and troubleshooting after that, but we figured if we have the knowledge and resources to build a console unlike any other in the world, than why the hell not? The sky's the limit!
Yup, sure am. I've been at it professionally for about 7 years and did it for many years before that as an amateur, setting up ghetto rigs in garages and warehouses to record our friends' bands and whatnot. Now we've got a really nice permanent facility down here in Florida that's designed after Tony Bongiovi's Power Station in NY. We got lucky enough to run into him several years back and now we do a ton of work with him in music and film, as well as acoustic technology development, and we're now part of the larger Bongiovi Media & Technology company. You can check out the studio's website at Avalon Recording Studio (the gear list and pics on there are rather dated, but it'll give you an idea) and our acoustics technology at Bongiovi Acoustics
