  • Hey Chris, thanks for the nice card and thoughts. I hope your Christmas is better than you told me about a couple of weeks ago. I hope your health issues improve. Godspeed, brother! May 2014 be a great year for you and your family! All the best.
Are you a real 1911 builder, as in Colt? Because I was a gunsmith for many years, and competed regionally back in the day. Been twenty-five years ago, now. This was back at the end of the 45 custom days, and built plenty of competition rigs in 45. How about you?
"Back in the day"... seems like both of us are a bit back in the day. I remember the early days... I grew up in SoCal, so had a bit of involvement in the early days of IPSC. Not going back as far as Cooper and the Bear Valley shoots, but the early 70s when I was still in high school and we had a shooting club. Ha ha ha... a high school shooting club, in California no less. Not likely today huh?

Are you still involved at all with custom work, or like me and just tinker now and again?

    C
As you were, so was I. ;)

I got back into it temporarily while mending from colon cancer, but doubt I'll continue. The business has changed... both gunsmiths and customers can be very, ah... unruly.
The 1911 business was really more a side business, and to be honest I should have used something else for a user name as it's not very representative of my current status... which is not doing much of anything at the moment.

The longest career I've ever had was for 11 years as a technical instructor with Harley-Davidson. But I've not done that since 2003. I got back into dirt and adventure bikes, but the aftermath of cancer has kept me off a bike for over 2 years now.

I'm not even sure that I could say for certain where I'm at or where I'm going... so I'll just say that I'm in a state of "transition".

Your inquiry has actually prompted me to take a second look at my "profile". I think I'll update it to represent the now rather than the past.

    Cheers,
    Chris
