Hello! Not sure why i couldn't reply to your post about the evod coil rebuilding troubles, but I wanted to give you my advice as I went through the exact same things. The burnt taste: to get rid of it try making "microcoils" which are very tightly wound coils, around 6-10 wraps, that touch each other. That's the only way I have solved that problem reliably. I wrap my coils right around the wick; no needle for support or anything. Give it a shot, it's easier than I thought it would be to wrap the kanthal with no needle.
The burnt rubber smell comes from that little rubber grommet and sometimes if they have been burnt that smell just stays with them forever and you have to throw it away.
