My considered opinion: the PT3 uses 2 parallel coils with 1 coil sitting above the other in close proximity. The bottom coil prevents the top coil from getting adequate air flow.
Of course, it could also be that your liquid is too thick, or you are running it at too many watts ;)
@Str8vision ... I wonder if there's any value in skipping the first freeze filtering phase and going straight to the reduction phase, then freeze filtering? We may not lose as much concentrate as filtering losses?
So Hot extract > Coffee filter > reduce > freeze filter instead of
Hot extract >...
Unfortunately, on Krisma's birthday the heavens have opened up, knocking out her power supply which is not due for restoration for another 18 hours or thereabouts.

As an afterthought (and because I was mixing a hybrid juice [steeped tobacco + concentrates]), I feel the double cold filtering as explained by Str8vision above will be about the best we can achieve at home.
My thoughts, and this is from gut feel with no scientific reasoning, are to transfer to VG or even PG for loooong term cold storage (VG, because it stores better according to Kurt).
