Tensioned Micro Coils. The next step.

Yes, tension the wire during wrapping the coil around a former; I use a machine screw for this. The advantage is the coil retaining it's geometry indefinitely. Of course, you can't "hot" dry burn the coil else you will stress relieve it (anneal it), losing any advantage. I can't speak for any...

Tootle Puffers, Part Three! (The Sequel of the Redux)

Some length of wire (of the same gauge) has the same surface area irrespective of what diameter coil you make. Whether that coil has full contact with the wick, and whether that wick can supply an adequate amount of liquid to the coil depends on your choice of wicking material, your skill in...

Tootle Puffers, Part Three! (The Sequel of the Redux)

Why? You are using the same length of wire, aren't you?

Tensioned Micro Coils. The next step.

The coil retains it's geometry for a lot longer if it's formed under tension ie it doesn't distort as easily as a coil formed without tension.

Probably, but that's not the reason I use them ;) And with rayon as the wick, and with very thin tails extending down the tank can be wicked completely empty. Eggcellent :) Written on 21st Century papyrus

What hot spots? There isn't any with a spaced coil. A thing to note: all the major manufacturers premade coils (blister pack) are spaced (BVCs may be an exception)

The Overlooked Tootle Puffer Gear Thread

Sometime back, we were discussing the Pico tank? Mine arrived and I have been using it solely with the CLR adaptor and std CLR 1.0ohm coil. It's okay like that, but you can't use the full capacity of the tank without a lot of tipping to keep the wicks wet. Replaced the std wick (cotton) with...
