You can pretty much use SS just as you would Kanthal. Twisted, Claptons and so on. Only advice is if doing twisted or a clapton variation, i wouldnt mix with kanthal. What gauges you use for your clapton
Most do 30G or 32G clapton wire when they start and move up as they go, and the core wire is usually Nichrome 80 to heat faster- BreeZyCloudZ

The common or "book" clapton is 26G/36G around 2-2.5mm, maybe 5-7 wraps, mine are 26G/40G around 2.5mm, i try to hit around .25 ohms- BreeZyCloudZ

You can just up the watts to speed up the ramp up, but also, you dont have to go super low subohm, you should try around a .5, thats a fairly high subohm that shouldnt eat alot of juice- BreeZyCloudZ
