    The cosmetics are different, as well as having an OLED screen. Version 2 is smooth, while version 3 has a spiraling groove cut into it.

    The only thing that I can think of that is related to sound is the audible warning of gasses venting when your battery is going to explode. But that is so rare, and you need a specific set of circumstances for it to happen. A "perfect storm" scenario, ie mechanical mod with unprotected batts...

    The crackle that you hear is the e-juice vaporizing on the coil. It is perfectly normal.
