Older Folks and Vaping Back Porch - Part Seven

I'm not sure I ever ate any deer meat before yesterday... if I ever did, it was long ago. Anyway, I bought some ground venison and have now made some burgers. Unseasoned, it has the strongest taste of any ground meat that I've ever tried... I've had buffalo, veal, pork, beef, chicken, lamb and...

What were they thinking when they came up with this brand name? Didn't they realize how well the name lends itself to creative pronunciation? I hadn't made pancakes since the 1970s. Back then, I never found a "just add water" mix that was any good. Well, I bought some of this Krusteaz pancake...

It's pretty funny that for the 10" version of Amazon Fire tablet, the price is $100 with special offers, $115 without special offers. I'm reminded of the contest where 1st prize is week in Philadelphia, and 2nd prize is two weeks in Philadelphia. Maybe someone who uses a Samsung Galaxy tablet...

I've never been able to complain about the satellite TV outages that occur during storms. They have always been reasonably brief outages. For me, satellite is the only available option... the fastest available DSL is too slow, and there is no cable TV available in my rural location. Maybe the...

For what it's worth, I've used nothing but SS316 in TC mode for around 2 years now.

Movie review: Freeway, 1996. Reese Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland. Another weird movie, but this one I enjoyed, despite, or because of, the shocking and violent imagery and plot.

Movie review: Vicky Cristina Barcelona, 2008. This Woody Allen movie has beautiful footage of geography that makes it good enough to warrant watching, but it's disappointing in that it seems obsessed with making excuses for the infidelity of the primary male character, Juan Antonio, portrayed by...

Happy Anniversary Pat and Ginny! Oh, they do, but I've tried satellite internet before, with two different providers, and I'm not going to make that mistake again. It's unreliable and fidgety. 10 Mbps, or even the half of that I get from CenturyLink DSL, is FAR better than 25 Mbps satellite service.

You mean Internet, right? Nothing faster than 10Mbps is available here. That's not fast enough for reliable HD streaming. I was hoping that 25Mbps was available, but it's not.

For 4 days I've had Dish satellite TV. For most of the previous 25 years I had DirecTv; never had Dish before. I like Dish more than DirecTv for the following reasons: Programming is cheaper for more or less equivalent programming packages Pricing is more straightforward... no surprises...

Movie review: DreamHouse, 2011. Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts. Just not my kind of movie. Weird is fine, but unpleasantly weird is not.

Movie review: Comet, 2014. An absolutely great and totally engrossing movie with awesome acting by the two main actors, Emily Rossum and Justin Long (the guy who portrayed the "cool" Macintosh computers in a series of Apple vs Windows TV ads).

But I did. Love the picture. And here are a couple of hangers-on who climbed up the side of my house in order to get out of the rain. It hasn't rained now for almost 48 hours, but this pair is evidently still feeling waterlogged. There was a 3rd one, bigger and browner, but I don't see him...

After a day in the refrigerator, my mad science sauce has improved. The cumin has stopped being so forward and has stepped back to blend marvelously with the other ingredients. I just had a hamburger on a bagel, with a couple of thick slices of tomato and a good teaspoon, maybe two, of the...

There's a cartoon where Daffy Duck (I think) drinks a can of gasoline and then, before he lights a match and tosses it down his throat, he says "this is a real neat trick, but you can only do it once". The stuff I made today is equivalent in heat to a mild wasabi sauce. That means it's pretty...

I'm willing my body to science but science is contesting the will. (I remember that Iffy really enjoyed that one the last time I told it, a good while back.) "What if there is no tomorrow? There wasn't one today!" -- Bill Murray, in Groundhog Day.
