Jim, I haven't hidden the button yet (other than to see how it works). I still think it's a great design but why would I ever want to turn it off! :evil: Can't wait for the brass accents and that cool slotted shirt if it becomes available.- Pete54

The Next Big thing.... Porous Ceramic Wicks
The first one I made just fit into the 3.5mm wick hole of the DID. It was over 1/8". I'm assuming the it will wick better if there is some space around the wick so I made it smaller and will try it tonight. I don't know what else I could be doing wrong. I'm sure it's something.- Pete54

I tried 30awg but my results have, so far, not been good. Am I the only person who has tried this with less than stellar results? I'm using the correct material and have torched it to red hot. I found it very hard to wrap a hot spot free coil. The coil seems to stick to the material once it's...- Pete54

All I do is make a thin walled SS mesh wick of about 20mm and unroll it, add a strip of 3mm silica wick, re-roll it and I'm done. The reason I do it this way is that the less ss mesh I use, the faster it heats up due to less of the heat sink effect. Anyhow, here is a pic. here is a pic of...- Pete54

Finished making my "airstone" wick. So far I'm not impressed. I do not prefer the taste and there is no way that it wicks as fast as what I usually use which is a ss mesh with silica core wick. Rick, there is no way on earth this wick will keep up with your "straw" set up. Maybe it'll improve...- Pete54

Finished making my wick today. For me, the jury is still out on this. I understand that the taste is supposed to get better after the first tankful. Right now I'd say I prefer the taste on a SS mesh wick. Wicking is ok but not as fast as my regular ss mesh wick with silica core. The wick I made...- Pete54

I started off with a dremel and Diamond cut-off wheel. Once I got a somewhat circular rod, I put the rod in a low speed drill using a carto condom to hold it in place without breaking it and ran it at slow speed while holding the dremel with the diamond wheel running up against it. Before I cut and shape my wick, a thought crossed my mind. We can have either a thicker piece above the wick hole, where the coil is applied OR we could have a thicker section inside the tank, if the wick is inserted through the wick hole from beneath the hole. Rick, I'm pretty sure you need the Topfin black airstones as they are made of alumina ceramics. I went to Lowes to buy a diamond wheel for my dremel but decided against it when I saw they wanted $18.00 for one wheel.- Pete54

Congrats CW! Man that second shirt looks great! A couple of observations. First, I've been using regulated devices for so long, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about using the Poldiac un-kicked. Well, I'm using 28awg Kanthal in a 5/6 wrap and consistently getting 1.2 - 1.3Ω which is just perfect at...- Pete54
