    resistance wire is tougher than you give it credit for, its built to glow red for years. Personally i've only managed to snap kanthal from heat only once which was when i got impatient with rebuilding my rsst and decided to zap it with 12v (around 100w at the coils resistance) :p

    PG has been pumped into hospital ventilation systems for over half a century now, its quite an effective antiseptic. It will help you prevent catching the flu but doesn't treat it so don't take it as an excuse to vape in the hospital if it were to happen anyway :p

    I'll save you the trouble - chromium VI oxide is the bad guy, it amounts to around 0.016% in the chrome layer grown by 316L SS which considering the thickness of the layer(20nm or so after what vapers do with it) would take the combined shavings of around 5000 wicks to kill a mouse.

    Chromium oxide is a very translucent white and the quantities produced by oxidizing ss are pretty much invisible anyway. What you saw was probably bits of carbon left behind from burnt juice.
