Having it scratched off should have NO effect on the connection. I am not sure if the firing pin is brass or copper, but the coating coming off could only give you a better connection IMO. Hope this helps, welcome to our forum! Set a spell, take your shoes off...ya'll come back now, ya hear ;) -

Im my month of debating which PV to buy, I read everything I could on the MVP and NEVER read about 1 exploding. I am sure that ANY battery if misused could explode.
