Try diluting with 100% VG (unflavored, zero nic). Mixing it in a 1:1 ratio will bring your 8mg juice to 4mg and the added VG should smooth out the PG throat hit. That said, it'll dilute the flavor considerably.
Yeah the only way your body takes in calories is through the digestive system. So unless you're drinking your ejuice (not a good idea), calories from vaping isn't a concern.

When I first started, I noticed that my first vape in the morning always made me cough. I attributed it to waking up dehydrated although it retrospect, it might have also been due to my lungs still getting used to vaping.
