A freshly charged battery meters out to 4.2 volts. When a load, like firing a coil, is placed on the battery the voltage drops, this is caused by the internal resistance of the battery. Different batteries have different internal resistances and will then have different internal voltage drops...
that was true with the silver contacts in the grand for sure. The older contacts had a higher voltage drop, the gold contacts should get them much closer.
