    Unless you're using a mech or otherwise are voltage limited, no Nichrome doesn't heat up faster. Nichrome is slightly denser than than Kanthal and therefore the same length and thickness takes slightly more power. It's resistance is lower of course, for the same coil.

    I never had any problem wicking a Protank head. I started out dry burning and rewicking the original coils, they're #34 or smaller with about 1/16" ID. After that I'd pull out the wick on a new one and replace it with cotton, too much better. It's just a small coil and really hard to thread it...
