    Official DNA 40 introduction

The reason for using nickel instead of Kanthal is the temperature coefficient of resistivity. Between room temperature and 500C, Kanthal increases is resistance by about 2% Over the same range, nickel's resistance increases by five times. See...

    Box mods: Do they make....?

Since the cost of a DNA is $50+, you're unlikely to get a decent mod for under $100. I can see the vaporshark for £119, which theoretically would come out at $150, but seems it becomes more like $180. If you're any good with a soldering iron, you could consider this...

Flavors that may contain Diacetyl, are there really this many?

The other piece missing is that ppm is almost exactly equal to ug/ml. In fact ppm is a little higher, but by less than 5%. So 21.48ug/ml DA is 21.7 ppm, and 45.6 ug/ml AP is 47.6 ppm. (The figures would be the same for water, but DA and AP are just a little less dense than water: 990kg/m3 and...

Flavors that may contain Diacetyl, are there really this many?

The way that Dr Farselinos's study worked the numbers was a little different. The permitted NIOSH limits are 5 ppb DA and 9.3 ppb AP. That converts, using factors that depend on the substance under consideration, to 17.9 ug/m3 of DA and 38 ug/m3 of AP Each of these limits are over an 8 hour...

Traveling by plane with vape gear

I was asked to open my bag once, so they could check my K100 was an e-cig, which they thought it was without my telling them. I understood that; it's a rather odd shape. No other problems, and that includes once to the States and once to Panama, where e-cigs are banned from sale and import for...

Why did my battery get HOT!?

I've had a Russian 91% short out only by screwing it on and off a mod. The R91 has an extra screw so you can adjust it, but in my case it was screwed down tight, making it more like the Kayfun. To my mind it is a design error that the positive end of the build deck can rotate into the negative...

Any electronics experts here? microvolt comparator needed

Thanks Alexander. If you do have time that would be great. I think I see where you are going with that, but... I think what you are saying is that the error is only on one side of zero, so by comparing in both directions we can null it out. But which direction that is, and whether I can run a...

    I'm one of THOSE now!!

Congratulations. Me too (somewhere around; I never noticed the date when I did it.)

Any electronics experts here? microvolt comparator needed

The accuracy of reasonably cheap resistance meters scares me. For example, the top-rated one of Fasttech, It reads from 0.01 to 9.99 ohms Accurate to +-0.4% 0.4% of 10 ohms is 0.04 ohms. That's OK if I'm building a 2 ohm coil, which to be fair is what I'm likely to be doing, but no use at all...

    Different materials in drip tips?

For me, there are two materials that stand head and shoulders above the rest. Glass and stone. I expected to like ceramic, but I don't find it anywhere near as good as glass. Both are available cheaply although you might have to go to FT to find the stone: https://www.fasttech.com/p/1448609...

    Battery Carrier and safety

That should be safe. It can only make a short-circuit if the tail ends of the two 18490s touch, and the case design makes that unlikely. However, you might wear holes in the casing of the 18350. If that happens it could short-circuit in your mod. For the 18490/18500 problem, I would add a dab...

Flavors that may contain Diacetyl, are there really this many?

The ECITA detection levels were taken from a private email from Tom Pruen to me dated July 18th 2014. I don't want to quote it here, because I don't have his permission. He said he had proof that the detection limit was at least 0.05%, because they had had one liquid fail at that level. The...

    Lung Damage, Lowered Capacity

When I got a cold, it always used to last three days. Then I started smoking and colds started to last a week or more. I'm just recovering from a really nasty cold -- aches, shivering, the works. It lasted three days.

Flavors that may contain Diacetyl, are there really this many?

Both of the standards go into detail about why they put the levels where they do. There is very, very little evidence to base any safety limit on. NIOSH decided that their limits made any disease a one in a thousand chance and SCOEL decided they did not trust all of NIOSH's numbers. See: CDC -...

Flavors that may contain Diacetyl, are there really this many?

Since this is still on-going, you might like to see this spreadsheet I wrote. There was some discussion in a previous thread about how the NIOSH safety levels were applied to e-cigs. I've spent my $38 on the report and I now know how this is done. The spreadsheet should explain it. One factor...

    .15 ohm build

I would not trust a DMM to get within 100% of the correct reading this low. Yep. I think you nailed it.

    I Like a Tighter Draw...

I don't suppose anyone has seen a lanyard for a 22mm mod? I think I'm going to have to build it myself. Hmmm.... Velco closure with a non-slip inside and something round the outside too to hang a decent weight on...

    I Like a Tighter Draw...

A bottom coil clearo will probably flood if used with a tight draw, but if you have a variable mod -- even a Spinner, you should be able to increase the power enough to make use of the extra liquid.

    Multimeter help!

Yes, and if you want to check yourself, the answer is 6 amps (highlight to read). Then the power that you are using is volts squared divided by the resistance, or current squared multiplied by the resistance, or the voltage multiplied by the current. And that is 25.2 watts. (Highlight again)
