    evolv patents variable wattage!

A volume control is at best voltage control. You can have voltage control free. A standard volume control is a potentiometer with a logarithmic characteristic across the line-level audio. It therefore amounts to dividing the voltage of the audio signal by a configurable amount. The user...

    evolv patents variable wattage!

The priority date on the patent is 28th Oct 2011. Any device on the market before that date gets a free pass, all others must pay or pay to argue. If there was a device on the market before that date, it could invalidate the patent. --- Support Center » Filing Dates vs Priority Dates Since the...

In order to infringe a patent, you have to have every component of at least one claim of the patent in your own product. In the case of the e-cig, because the technology has moved on, that is unlikely. In the case of a VW mod, it is almost certain. I believe that every VW mod on the market will...

    second hand vape.

The question in law is not whether it annoys someone, it is whether it annoys a reasonable person. See my dog analogy earlier in the thread. If public opinion moves so much that any white clouds are seen as annoying to everyone, a ban will be a reasonable step to take. Before it gets that far we...

You are correct. It even explicitly suggests PWM and controlling current instead of voltage. I could argue that PWM is not claimed, but it is certainly described. The patent pretty much covers all VW unless you use gas, and I'm not sure about that. ;-) @Firecrow: PWM is fine, if it is fast...

    evolv patents variable wattage!

Interesting. I've not come across that one before. It's variable wattage (power), just variable average power. I think that counts within the meaning of the patent. However it does not output an adjusted voltage, it outputs a switched voltage. I wouldn't like to second guess a patent lawyer or...

    evolv patents variable wattage!

It would take a court of law to be certain, but I don't think the patent as it is written covers PWM. It certainly does not cover controlling the power by measuring coil temperature. (But Evolv probably have that patent too.) So there are a couple of ways to work around. But I don't see...

    evolv patents variable wattage!

In my day job I control power all the time. The throttle on a combustion engine directly controls power. The control loops around that then use that to control speed, torque or what-have-you. That is, however, the exception that proves the rule. ;-)

Erm... VW controls watts --- power, not voltage. Some of them might measure resistance continuously and some (iTaste SVD) might measure it once per draw, but they all measure it at least that frequently and adjust the voltage for the configured power. Like it says in the patent. I don't know of...

    evolv patents variable wattage!

It won't be the big companies suing in this case. It will be Evolv either suing dozens of small importers or trying to sue a foreign company. Neither of those will be easy, cheap or fast. BT do not need this patent yet, but they very well may, unless the FDA bans VW. That is probably the only...

    evolv patents variable wattage!

Is there such a patent? But these innovations are being made by small companies, and the big companies are doing the copying. Patents simply do not work in situations like that. The copier has the innovator over a barrel, they can drain them of cash or settle for peanuts --- "Sue us if you...

    evolv patents variable wattage!

Nobody can patent anything that they did not invent. If nobody has the patents on e-juice, they won't get them now. If you think this patent is stupid, Apple has the patent on unlocking a mobile phone by dragging a graphic over a defined path. That is why Android devices unlock by dragging a...

    The Erlkönigin : PICTORIAL

The first, and penultimate, time I tried to rebuild an EVOD, I put too little cotton through the wick holes. It leaked, so I blew it out. Because there was so little cotton, I blew the cotton entirely out of the wick holes. Can you guess what happened the next time I sucked on it? I wonder if...

At what point is somebody really a non smoker?

Medically, we are addicts, because we have the need to continue to use nicotine. Sociologically, we are dependent or habituated. A sociological addiction is a behaviour that that wrecks lives. Cigarettes are at the light end of that if at all, vaping is well outside it. Using the term addict...

At what point is somebody really a non smoker?

So far as everyone else is concerned, you are a non-smoker as soon as you stop smoking. So far as you yourself are concerned, you are a recovering smoker until you know you've smoked your last cigarette. I haven't smoked for almost a year. So far as my doctor, fiance, etc. care, I am a...

    second hand vape.

It's a very similar issue to vaping. If I may, I'll highlight the issue with that parallel in mind. I'm a dog owner and it is very frustrating to go on holiday (vacation) to the sea-side and find there are no beaches that I can visit because they all have no dogs allowed. Now I'm a responsible...

Just a literally insignificant amount. For example, there are the same sorts of levels of contaminants in nicotine patches, and then you dilute it a thousand or more times in room air. Also at least one of those studies did not consider the filtering effect of the vaper's lungs; the study used...
