I switched to 5 wraps of 30 gauge. It is working fine. I still think I have a short somewhere because it freaks my vamo out but it works fine on my eGo's/MVP/mechanical mods.
It is odd, you would think since the resistance is so low with 28 gauge that it would fire up and glow really quickly...
After fiddling around I decided 28 gauge is not within my skill set right now. The stuff is just so dang thick and stiff it makes working with it really hard. I will tune down my ambitions for now and try to set it up with 30 gauge.
I haven't really ever paid attention on my working set ups...
I am doing some toying around with one of my AGA-T2's. I tried out 28 gauge kanthal on a very lightly oxidized wick. I am assuming I am getting a short somewhere because it takes the coil forever to heat up & the center post/nuts on my AGA are getting really hot. Very strange though because on...
Understanding Wick Types
Found this interesting. Notice the comments on fiber glass aka silica wick, what we do with fiber glass wicking is down right scary.
Viluxia, what did you do to get your wick to over wick? Id love to have that problem.
If anyone has had over wicking issues id like to know what caused them so I could try them out.
You completely left the wick unoxidized? Did you even lightly torch it? I am going to be experimenting with minimal oxidation soon and if I could get away with none that would be interesting.
It isn't that silica bothers me for taste reasons, its that silica wick = silica fibers = sand fibers = glass fibers = fiber glass. I would really really like to avoid it at all costs.
Cotton gauze soaking overnight as we speak, I will also be trying out hemp & cotton lamp wicking.
Very...
What about Kevlar wicking? I read a report that said the fibers are too large to inhale. Anyone tried it out?
Amazon.com: Length of 3/4 x 1/8 inch (19mm x 3.2mm) Kevlar Wick: Toys & Games
"Inhalation: Kevlar® fiber is too big to inhale into the lungs"
Okay, I think I am going to try my next wick with just torching. No juice burning. See where that gets me. I was lightening up the juice burning already but I haven't had any issue with shorting so I think I can venture into just 2 passes of the torch oxidation and see where that gets me. I will...
I will throw my cheese cloth in to soak overnight. Pretty sure I soaked it overnight before but I will give it another shot. Maybe I just need to soldier through the funky taste this time.
Anyone else got any prep tips for cotton?
I need tips on how you do this please. Is your VG thinned with water or alcohol? How many mm of wick are you fitting in to the AGA wick hole? Do you tilt? Oxidization steps? I just can't figure out why my solid wick won't work. I am using #500 mesh. Fit nearly 70mm into the last one I made...
Video of my AGA with a hollow wick. I was struggling to to vape and capture it on camera for some reason but I think I caught at least one vape almost completely on camera lol.
*edit* Yay I managed to embed the video in my post, neat *edit*
A solid wick should wick better, but with my high VG juices it just wasn't wicking enough for me. The center channel allows the juice to roll down the middle of the wick when your device is tilted and wet the wick. So it isn't truly wicking via capillary action but you accomplish the goal. Just...
I plan to read through this thread more thoroughly as soon as I have time. Looks like interesting stuff. I have 1 major concern though. Would it be possible to ever get all of the machining oils off of the wires that are on the inside of that wire rope? Seems like you would have to...
I ran into the same issue as you. Try rolling a wick with a center channel in it. I naturally tilt when I vape anyways and the center channel in the wick improved things for me. Also, not trying to squeeze every bit of wick in helped. If you have too much wick it can get pinched & not wick well...
+1 to what everyone is saying. AGA-T2 is the way to go. Get some M3 washers, a 3/32" drill bit, and some good SS mesh and you are ready to rock and roll (rock and roll at setting it up, everyone knows how genesis attys can be to set up at first).
