Proteckt,
Welcome to the party! I can't say that I have worked with nickel, but the resistance issues are not exactly *only* from the manufacture of the wire, they are from differences in the tension the wire is wrapped with... translating to an uneven amount of wire being used per coil.
My...
On the twisted leads, make sure the outside lead goes *over* the inside lead or it will separate the two end leads when you twist them. Also, it means that your leads have to be twisted opposite ways. Learned that one the hard way.
Post edited as usual lol.
Mac, I totally understand the spasms. I have major nerve damage in both arms from the shoulders down and some nasty spinal injuries from the military, hence the gizmo making it much easier to make spotless coils than the pin vise.
Agreed on a simple 9 wrap (at least...
Thanks Mac, thought I'd prove they are still stable and possible. It runs 0.55Ω at 3mm and 8/7 wraps parallel... running single coil for now as I wanted to make sure I nailed the geometry and wicking before I took it to d/c.

Pepper,
That's basically what I do when I'm not testing something. Pull down on the vice grips to go for consistent tension, still running a pair like that at 80w with a .34Ω d/c build after 3 weeks.
Its a learning curve but it does work.
It's a number set by the manufacturer that varies.
If you look it up they probably say it's around 1.2Ω or something similar for safety reasons.
There's something specific I want to mention that's related to that aspect but normally saved for cloud chasers, however, since a lot of us rebuild...
Oh definitely, I'm not suggesting anyone push the battery at all but my bottom resistance threshold on my Vision Spinner was 1.2Ω and ran a small single coil rda for weeks on end with no problem.
That's not to say I didn't get lucky either lol.
Also, since they are semi-regulated (not at all...
I don't think so in Europe Aal, is there a welding shop or metal working shop around you? I'm just using a 1/8 in rod I got from a basic hardware store.
