    Yes 18490's work just fine. The numbers actually refer to the dimensions of the battery. 18mm in diameter, then either 350, 490/500, or 650mm in length. The only difference between the 18500 and 18490 (besides 10mm of length) is that the 500 is a 650mAh battery and the 490 is a 1200mAh battery...
