Circuit design for 5V USB powered Ultra/Super Capacitor 'Booster Box'

Looks like it's not gonna work, Alex. As CraigHB showed, you'd get ~10 seconds of usable voltage. I just simulated it with Electronics Workbench (yeah, I'm THAT old, lol!) and that's what I got, also. That's not the worst part of it, though. A 10 second drag @5V is pretty harsh, indeed, but it...

Great job, nana! You're the kind of person I want to be around when either the zombie apocalypse or the rise of the machines happens! Are you also a MacGuyver fan?

    Soldering?

Post a link to the vid and I'll tell ya how they did it. My guess would be he/she pre-fluxed the wire and post with liquid flux (or solder paste), then brought the tinned iron to the connection to create the joint. This method is usually employed in surface mount soldering, where not much...

Circuit design for 5V USB powered Ultra/Super Capacitor 'Booster Box'

That's actually a very interesting idea, Alex! Sounds to me like it could work, also. In my past experience with supercaps at my old job, I'd charge it up, solder an LED to one and throw it around. The damn thing would still be lit the whole 8 hour shift! And those were 1F caps! (granted, an...

    The "GlowStick "

Damn, Chris! That thing looks positively badAzz! Like you drove a neon bulb through the indicator! Are those UV LEDs, BTW? If they are, you could coat the insides of the tube (and/or the outside) with some UV ink! Or did you already do that? Digital cam pics can look way different than...

    So I made a mistake...twice

Wow, I hadn't heard of that one before; great find, CraigHB! I'd like to try that wire, myself, but I have enough 1lb rolls of 63/37 to last me a couple of lifetimes, lol!

    .44 mini Booster Box Mod

Ah, never mind; I should have read all the posts. It looks like it all boils down to the differences in the protection circuits used by each battery brand... yup. I will add that when I used to use my Trustfires, there was a definite cutoff where it would vape fine but then just stop working...

    .44 mini Booster Box Mod

I have both 14500 battery brands and my Ultrafires are ~1mm shorter than their Trustfire counterparts. The positive tab on the Ultras are also wider than the Trusts. Maybe these small differences are the cause?

    So I made a mistake...twice

+1 on the 63/37 solder! 63% tin / 37% lead solder is also referred to as eutectic solder. Eutectic solder has 2 advantages over 60/40 or other types. It has the lowest melting point of all the tin/lead alloys and it is true a melting point, not a range, meaning it solidifies instantly when it...

UDMSBF V2.0 - (Upside Down Mini Stealth Botoom Feeder)

Cool, thanks for the info! Yeah, "pocketable" is my technical term meaning it won't go into meltdown in my pocket, like when I forget to turn off my master switch, lol. I'm a mechanic and usually lean over (and under) vehicles and it really takes it's toll on my boxmods. I really do wish these...

Scavenge parts from old computers, mp3 players, electric toothbrushes, musical greeting cards, etc.?

Wow, pnguin! I spent quite a bit of time looking for something like this site for Twisted and came up with some that were too crappy, some too complicated and some which actually had erroneous info! I gave up in disgust and hoped someone else had better luck and came to his/her aid... Thanks...

UDMSBF V2.0 - (Upside Down Mini Stealth Botoom Feeder)

BTW, what are you using as an atty connector stabilizer in there? Looks interesting and like it really adds rigidity. Mine ALWAYS crack up there!
