    I don't know that this has anything to do with the issue but I quit using my Xtar Vp1 because of the indentations it was causing in my batteries. I went back to my tried and true Pila charger. Like I said, this is probably totally unrelated to your problem but...just my 2 cents worth.

    My biggest problem with changing the spring on my old Grand was finding a .050 Allen wrench. I have lots of Allen wrenches but none of that size and there wasn't one to be found in the metropolis of Colville, WA. Eventually ordered one off Amazon.

    A magic vial, huh? That would be handy. It is kind of sloppy and wasteful digging the Noalox out of the bigger tubes. I ran out of the stuff that came in the tiny ziplock quite awhile ago. Wouldn't something like a felt-tip Noalox pen be just perfect?:)
