Definitely sounds like you just don't like VG. I'm down to 3mg, which makes DIY a bit tricky as I have to add hardly any nic, and my juices have zero throat hit, but provide for enormous clouds. I'm no cloud chaser, but my preference for VG and dripping definitely puts me in 'cloud maker'...
