Awsum, do they have lowriders in NJ? I thought that was a California thing. I hadn't heard of it anywhere else and first heard of it when I lived in CA. I guess it's like those crosses by highways where people died in an accident. I first saw them traveling cross-country to CA, but now they...

I've been thinking of Uncle and wondering how he's doing. Does anyone have any news? I wish he'd drop by for a visit and update us.

I learned a new Chinese word today: B.J. It means "shut your mouth." We have a local store called BJ's, and when I learned the word from the kids, I said I wondered if the owners of the store know what their name means in Chinese -- then said, "Probably not." So the kids and I joked around about...

Ducky, they're mallards. That surprised me. I had imagined them as those white Peking ducks.

Yay! It's raining! And it's a steady kind of rain that'll soak in, not a gusher that just washes away. It might keep up all day, and if it does, it'll do a lot to alleviate the water shortage, though I suppose just one day of steady rain wouldn't fix the situation. Still, it's good news, however...

Good morning, Lizzie. How did you like the movie?

Lizzie, I saw the preview for that movie, and it did look funny. Have fun! Laugh a lot.

We've got a drought situation here, too. See DROUGHT: Ithaca water supply 'critically low' What's really serious is that there are a lot of farms in the area. What will this do to their crops?

What I meant, Trit, that after hearing all the bad news, it was nice to hear something positive. I didn't mean that plane makes up for all the trouble in the world, just that some variety from mayhem is a relief. I hate hearing about things I can do nothing about. It just makes me sad, and being...

Wuz, I think that isn't new these days. I felt school was like that back when I was a student, and I'm no spring chicken! I think a big problem is that education is mass-produced. Since a teacher has to teach a whole class, maybe 20 students or so, everything has to be geared to the middle of...

Yes, I realize there's a long way from this experimental aircraft to really using the technology, but I found it exciting, anyway. I'm so tired of hearing about all the strife and killing in the world! I thought this positive bit of news was badly needed now -- at least I needed it.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Awsum. I did tell the girl the reasons I listed above. Meanwhile, did everyone hear about the solar-powered plane? With all the bad news I hear lately, it's refreshing to hear about this.

Today, I gave the girl a matchstick puzzle. Here is is, if anyone doesn't know what these are. Easy Matchstick Puzzles It's puzzle #1 at the top right. So the girl asked, "Why did you give this to me?" Hmm ... I began to wonder how to answer that. She asked if it was to understand how to...

I think Suicide Squad might be sort of fun since it is over the top. Of all the comic book type movies the boy chose, that one appealed to me most just because it was so outrageous. I like that perky totally insane blond girl in the previews. Let's see if the movie can live up to the previews...

Lizzie, just for you, a tutoring report. But first, a weather report. We got lots of rain today! Since it's been a drought, that's good news. It didn't rain constantly all day, but we had some thunderstorms and heavy rain at times. The youngest boy finally collected 100 stones to pay me back...

Lizzie, what I used to do with Penny when introducing her to a new pasture is to lead her around the perimeter, alongside the fence, so she could see where it was before I let her loose in the pasture. I think that helped her know where the fence line was so she wouldn't run into it by accident...

So now I've caught up. Thanks for the birthday wishes, all. Trit, what's going on with the possible move to the UK? I think, too, you need to calculate the cost of living and see if the wages there would be any better. What are apartment rents, for instance? 3mg, congratulations on the move...

Again, I have to respond. I have a Chinese-sounding last name, though it's actually Turkish (by marriage). But I don't look at all Chinese. One time, when I worked in publishing back in NYC, 3 of us were sent out to Jackson, Michigan (somewhere a reasonable distance west of Detroit, if I...
