My stepsister just sent me this, which you might get a laugh out of: Breaking News from Washington DC. Capital of the USA ! The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that there cannot be a Nativity Scene in the United States' Capitol this Christmas season. This isn't for any religious...

Merry belated Christmas! I'm back home now. I did have an Internet connection at my brother's house, but it was just too busy and hectic where I was to get online to keep in touch with everyone. I hope you all understand. It's been unseasonably warm here, too, but do you hear me complaining...

Good luck with the door, Lizzie. Yes, the boy who likes the dragon books is the one who says he can't think of anything to write when I try to get him to imagine something. Odd, isn't it? I think the difference is that the books put in something imaginative, but getting something imaginative...

Yes, we're going away to Philly to the family for a few days. I ordered a book for my nephews that hasn't arrived in the mail yet. I sure hope it comes tomorrow. Meanwhile, I wrapped all the other gifts. Did you ever try to wrap a case of wine? It's bulky and heavy! But I got it done. It's a...

Tomorrow, I have to wrap gifts, especially those for the kids, which I'll give them on Monday. This evening, I tutored, and everything went OK, but I had a long, heart-to-heart talk with the boy. He is just not trying. After those few times when he seemed to improve, now he has fallen back into...

The latest on tutoring, the ongoing saga. I assigned the 2 girls a writing project to tell me what they thought about the ballet. I asked some questions to give them ideas, like, "What was your favorite character? What was your favorite costume?" That kind of stuff. I noticed that the new girl...

Trit, feel better soon. My advice is to get lots of sleep and drink lots of fluids, either water or juice. Try to eat something healthy, if you can. Chicken soup is good for what ails you.

I just got back from the ballet with the 2 little girls, 8 years old, that I tutor. I think they liked it, though the original girl kept calling it a movie, and I had to correct her a few times. She has never been to a movie in a theater, which I hope to correct in the future, so she may not...

I agree with Lizzie -- climbing a tower like that would never be a job I could do. I'm not afraid of heights and find them rather exhilarating -- the view from high up is fascinating -- but not out in the open like that, and one of my first thoughts, while watching the video and before reading...

I wondered what a mirliton was, so I looked it up. It's a small reed flute like a kazoo.

Report on the kids. I ordered ballet tickets this evening for the 2 girls and me. We'll go see The Nutcracker on Sunday, the Ithaca Ballet. The girls take ballet lessons, so I think they should see a real ballet. In fact, the first girl said today that she's getting bored with ballet lessons...

Lizzie, when you comb out the pony's mane, do you use some sort of detangler like Cowboy Magic? I think the kind you rub on might be better than the spray-on kind. The sound of spray bottles spraying frightens some horses till they get used to it, so I wouldn't suggest Show Sheen.

Oh, yes. one more thing. With the new girl today, I described how north, south, east and west stays the same, no matter which way you tun your body. She thought north was in front of you, south was behind, east was to the right, and west was to the left, no matter what. All that came about with...

The latest with the tutoring kids: I started out with the littlest boy. As I planned, we did some simple description. I told him to choose a toy, and then we described it, mainly what colors it had, but I worked on it this way. He had a train so I said, "What is it?" And he said, "A train." So...

Wuzz, I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles, and I'm sending vibes that all goes well. I, too, never know what to say. But know my thoughts are with you, wishing you and your wife the best. As for me, not much news. I tutor this afternoon, so maybe there'll be some news later. I think my...

It's been a while since a tutoring report, so here goes. Of course, the holidays had something to do with it, since I didn't see the kids on Thurs. as usual. I recently read a book about a schoolteacher and the state of education, etc. She seemed to be dealing with mostly poor kids. But in the...

I think the cold weather might contribute to the butthead syndrome. Horses usually get higher than a kite in the cold or wind. If you give him lots of exercise, he should calm down a bit.
