    The kanthal in a hybrid skews the temp controls- I don't know how much, but I assume the gauge in comparison with the gauge of nichrome changes that ratio.     Are you using a hybrid coil or straight nickel? I tested with 32gauge kanthal/ 28 gauge nickel and 440 was when it started to scorch. Only done one nickel only and didn't test it on there ( didn't like the all nickel- too fragile) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
