    E-Cigarette Clinical Trials

True enough- BUT...I, like most people on this board, came to the table without an agenda. I smoked, which was my decision. (I'm young enough that there WERE warnings on the pack, so I can't really blame anybody else.) With our first child on the way, I wanted to quit, and found it impossibly...

    E-Cigarette Clinical Trials

I see what you're saying- but the problem is, the initial products are not (always, merely) inferior. They're different. I wanted a small battery to begin with because A) it felt more comfortable, as I was a cigarette smoker, and B) I had no idea about the advantages of bigger batteries. It...

    E-Cigarette Clinical Trials

Fair enough- I have read some. But I'm still frustrated by the number of studies which are conducted without considering the actual experience of actual product users, at least in designing the studies. Many studies are flawed in ways that a basic understanding of these devices as they are...

“Public Health Challenges of Electronic Cigarettes in South Korea” [JPMPH]

One of the main authors, Sungkyu Lee, is at the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education, University of California, San Francisco, USA. Tells me most of what I need to know about bias and conflict of interest. Ande

The vapor image problem - "eCigarettes"

Feel ya. I was "truly free" for nearly a year. Free from things like enjoying my job (it took so much longer to do the academic stuff!), free from enjoying social situations (too .....y; me, not them), free from sleeping well at night, free from not wanting to cry all the time. It was that...

    E-Cigarette Clinical Trials

Driving nails with a screwdriver can work. ;-) Still not the best tool for the job...but if it works, better than leaving them undriven, I guess. Same with my 510- not an ideal tool, but did the job. And then I got a big eGo. And THEN...I got an Alpha Ultramax. Sounds pretty egocentric, too...

Research: toxicity of fluid and aerosol from electronic cigarettes using human embryonic stem cells

So she's assuming cytotoxicity then? How else can they be so sure they're going to determine which components are the cause?? It may be, of course, that she really means "if any," but if so, somebody did a piss poor job of writing this up. If it's NOT a writing error, then of course we know...

Help me minimize the humiliation-- Man Purse

I've been using a rectangular purse-like bag for years, as it's good for my netbook. Vaping supplies just fit in the outside pocket. Small towel in the inside pocket. (From one frood to another. :-) ) And I'm so manly that not even a murse can keep the ladies off me. Ande

    E-Cigarette Clinical Trials

I think one thing that's been neglected is any kind of in between area. The methodology of Eissenberg's original no nicotine study is pretty much laughable. If it proved any thing at all, it's that new users of any product aren't good at using it, and that using one thing (an ecig in this case)...

Florida Department of Health surveys middle and high school students on e-cigarette usage

Has anyone undertaken a study of how honest children are when surveyed about their smoking experience? Just a thought- Some kids aren't really getting up every morning trying to think of ways to cooperate with adults who ask them stupid questions, you know? Call me down to earth. Ande

The vapor image problem - "eCigarettes"

It's interesting to note that this stigma, while extremely pervasive, is a fairly recent phenomenon. Smoking wasn't really "bad behaviour" until 40-50 years ago, and has only "become" extremely badly-looked on in the last 20 or so. And this didn't happen by accident. The denormalization of...

    Mod batteries in Korea?

Yikes- I've been using linux for several years now, but had to set up a dual boot for my netbook in order to do internet banking. (Still doesn't work right, but anyway...) In some ways, the most technologised country in the world. In other ways...jeez. Ande

Prohibitionists lie about snus, tell Swedes that Big Tobacco is disrespecting Swedish culture with snus advertisements

I guess "speechless" is the wrong word. Fact is, I speak about this to anybody who will listen. ;-) It's time they knew: roughly one fifth of the world's population, at least, smokes regularly. It's bad for health, but good for other things, including the incomes of a lot of companies and an...

John Polito: Approved quitting products are not effective

My longest ever period of nicotine abstinence (since my mid-teens) was between nine months and a year. Sheer hell for me and those around me. Never a day passed that I didn't want a cigarette, many times. Never a day that I didn't ask myself, over and over, if there wasn't some way I could...

Prohibitionists lie about snus, tell Swedes that Big Tobacco is disrespecting Swedish culture with snus advertisements

Wow. Just WOW. Not only are they working overtime to make sure that Sweden's success in reducing smoking related deaths doesn't catch on internationally...they're actually trying to reverse it in Sweden. I am speechless. ande

John Polito: Approved quitting products are not effective

I'm sure blind studies work for a lot of drugs. I've taken a lot of medical drugs and had no way, other than trust, to know whether the drugs I was given were real or not. But alcoholics, smokers, and similar...we know the drug in question too well. I recognise nicotine consumption in a...
