Handcrafted soap have naturally occurring glycerin in it that automatically makes it more moisturizing than most commercial soaps. Commercial soaps remove most of the glycerin to give it a longer shelf life.
All soap is made with lye. Castile is made with the majority if not all of the oils being Olive oil. I cheat if you want to call it that. Wood ash makes potash. Potash makes a soft soap. I use Sodium Hydroxide and use a mix of coconut, olive, palm, shea and soybean oils..
