    Yeah, that funky looking stuff is an insulator, one of mine looked the same when I installed the kit. I also removed some of the gunk, It worked fine for a while but eventually developed a leak. If you removed the gunk I'd just send her in and get it over with.

    Congrats on the new (to you) Reo! It would help to see a couple of pics of your build, but the general consensus is that you want to have your coil fairly close to the airhole and level with the height of the airhole.
