Could have sworn it worked without the resistor last night. Now getting a little over 2v through the mosfet without pressing the on button. Going to try the resistor and will post back.
Thanks again guys. Looks like P it is. Fried my N bench testing before assembly. Rookie mistake assumed the center pin would be the gate/switch. Lol.
Then got the source and device leads reversed and damn thing would not completely turn off. Did not realize they were one way current flow like...
Thanks Java.
starting to piece together my first wood mod.
Single 18650 with 04050 booster. Have a 47k pot I was thinking about adding to make it vv too.
A recommendation for the p or n and placement would be great. This will be my first use of a non mechanical switch.
Made that mistake. Now I clean all excess soldier from the tip of my iron, dip it in flux, and touch it to the center pin. The excess blob is drawn to the iron and makes removal of the pin easy without damaging the gasket.
If you have dead cartos around just take one apart. The center gasket is the same as used in the battery connector and makes A free replacement part. Done it a few times.

Good discussion on this thread. Good results being gotten with cotton/organic wicks. Cheap and locally available too.
I have both 32 & 34gaA wire. The 32 measures 1.3ohm/in; the 34 is 2.0/in. So a 3.0ohm coil will need 1.5"of of 34 or 2.3" of 32. Consider the amount of space you have for the coil when picking a wire size. At 2.0ohm I like the 32ga better because I can spread the heat over a couple more coils...
