I got to hear them both. That's my kind of jam. I played along to this last one long after it ended haha. To me that's what music a mandolin should jam to.
that was a fun tune to jam with. I don't scale in e often on mando so it's fun playing with different stuff.
I never have tried playing a stand up bass. I just felt the strings on one at a music store. The take a lot of room.
and yes I post a lot here. this is the only ecf thread I visit...
Ya, I have been learning about all these wierd string instruments as of late. by no means or any shape am I knowledgeable. The cafe' guys have many old farts (I feel so young over there hehe) that make a lot of these old type things. I read every build thread because it's fascinating stuff...
I love hearing people's music. that's my fav part of the mandolin cafe'. and doesn't matter to me if it's what I normally listen to. hearing music from my internet friends is a personal experience that I think brings us closer
celestaphone is a fancy name for autoharp. I thought only old...
dear god, I feel so stupid... but funny story...
I bought a blond F style off ebay a while back. ends up it was a right handed mando with a left handed bridge. someone on mandolin cafe' pointed it out for me. cool stuff. well not one person mentioned my screw up here...
I could not get it...
this is all new to me too. I sold all my ecig stuff a while back and used the money to buy my epiphone mandolin with the money. I honestly thought it'd be a novelty instrument. then I found I loved it. the octave mandolin kit was because someone else posted a thread about it on the mandolin...
Bob, hope ya score a good bass player. 3 pce is fun if you have the vocals. so basically all that's left from that band is the guitar player? now that's a break up.
Sandy, it's an octave mandolin. 4 courses of 2 strings like a mandolin (same tuning) just one octave lower. G, D, A, E. the E is...
nope, moving the zero fret made the middle positions on fretboard out of tune. I swear the fret spacing is off somehow. wish I knew more about this stuff..
I just emailed the guy I bought the kit from. he offers support and this is the first help I have asked for since starting (yes I asked a...
I dunno. I clicked and it played now... I was so loopy and tired when I posted that. it's sure different than mandolin. and if I play over the hole more like I should then it gets very bassy? I wetsanded everything again and it's smooth as silk. I keep tweaking things a bit. took the toothpick...
all good. just tossing it out.
so I came home from my last shift and went to work. and finsihed the bridge. action is decent. having some intonation issues (I used a toothpick as a zero fret to do this in tune). I had been awake 22 hrs so my brain was fried. hit second wind now though and...
I'm a a big Shure fan. I use a Beta 58 myself for vocals, mainly because of the harmonizer and wanting a tight supercardiod pattern. Nothing wrong with recording with one.
dave, frets.com has amazing info on doing guitar work/setup. The nut is easier to figure spacing than the bridge on...
Don't tell anyone about the poster behind the mandolin.... those were supposed to be destroyed after the olympics hehe.
the tailpiece was crooked from the factory. I tried to straighten as best I could. my neck line is off about 2mm so had to mount the tailpiece a couple mm off center. not a...
I did have a fan running and opened the garage door. havwen't looked but my car is probably covered in sawdust lol.
I got almost done last night but my hands gave up. after I had installed the tuners, tailpiece and made my bridge *hand files and ebony) I had to stop. today I just have to...
I'd like to say I was wearing a mask but no. I even have them but just use them when painting with the big gun. My garage is a mess now. I have to spend the next day and a half cleaning all the sawdust. it's on everything.
I sprayed 3 coats last night then sanded with 320 grit today and just...
I had to give my buddy a charger for his pipe because they sent an ac to usb adapter and no charger... they will send me a charger with my next order (on it's way now). am tempted to try a pipe myself. I like pipes if my username didn't give that away lol
Well I got the binding done, sanding down to 120 and sprayed my first clear coat. I'll get a couple few coats on the sand with finer paper. Tired now from sanding.
Cheers. I got 3/4 of the binding on yesterday. That's a big job when doing it all by hand and I have learned I need a proper tool for doing binding before I try it again. I drilled out the headstock for the tuners as well. Should be getting it clear coated today.
went to my fav local music...
I got most of the sanding done and roughed in the neck in this pic. Fretboard is glued on. I have since sanded and shaped the neck and rounded the heel of the neck and added an ebony cap. Just need to go get me a new drill today and some finish to put on. it's looking like an instrument finally
