FWIW when I use silica I expect to see NO glowing coils when being used, for that I would need to do a dry burn. The ones getting 'red hot' are the problem.

Standard cartos usually means ~3Ω. Assuming a bit of loss (parasitic) reistance with a 1 amp adapter that comes out to about ~2.9 actual vaping volts @ ~3W. Most folks would want more.
Well I won one of these, it appears to have a very similar switch.
