Same for me. The dedicated one I have now was a splurge/spur of the moment build that I refused to not finish. But now, I am hesitant on building a second. It would be nice, but the selfish part of me is saying not to. I have other hobbies I want to partake in as well that are also expensive... lol
It's quite possible depending on how far you can push the system. For OC'ing the GPU - only OC the core, no need to OC the memory for folding. For the CPU, I'll have to get back to you. Aside from what we've discussed via PM, I will do more research on those chips and report back. I'm at work so...
I didn't. I'll check it out now, and my OC is done (limited by my two smaller heatsinks...)
But! It's running at 2349.97mhz per core. I know it doesn't sound like much of an increase but keep in mind it's across 32 cores. Soooo... yay for now!
What are you realistically aiming for? If you just want to increase your PPD to say, 50-60k ppd then do a two slot motherboard with two AMD Opteron 6128's from ebay (they're listed at 35 bucks!) and then the ram, psu (I'd say 600w gold star+), etc. You do *not* need a top of the line hard drive...
I'm sitting on about $2000 that I might be able to use as play money. If I can, I'll use it to build another 4p rig. We will see. It only cost me roughly 30 bucks of an increase in my electric bill to run both systems last month.
