If you aren't a gamer then I would go no higher than a gtx580 by nvidia. Nvidia only for folding because ati doesn't have the same kind of support. And yes tpf is time per frame, 1% of the total work unit is considered a frame. The lower your tpf, the higher your points will be. Ppd shown in...

Is your card overclocked? What does the log say regarding the server rejecting the WU's?

That's strange. My i5 is generating ~18k PPD. Granted it's clocked at 4.8ghz but still, yours should be much higher than 1000-2500... Can't speak much on the A8, haven't been paying much attention to AMD folding outside of the G34 Opteron line.

So I've come to the conclusion that my old i7 is fine and it was the motherboard that was failing. I'm tempted to build a cheapo box to fold on that as well... trying to decide if it would be worth it. Or maybe I can sell the cpu... decisions, decisions.

Not exactly sound advice when working with a motherboard that is somewhat sensitive but to each their own lol.

If you're able to remove the green retention bracket (facing like in pic, press tab to the right) once removed should be able to lift heatsink off of cpu. Should only take minimal force to move the tab pointing towards you to the right. :(
