Tip it upside down to wet the wick and drop a couple drops down the silicone cup and see if that helps -

Try rincing them out with hot water and see if the center contact has moved up if so push it down may not be making contact with pv center post -

No reason why an adapter would quit working unless you over tightn them and they twist and break the wire that connects the top and bottom PC. But most adapters have a solid center piece with a whole drilled threw it so the adapters should not quit working -
