Your not screwing it up. When you fill upside down so it don't leak the air bubble is at the coils as you push juice in the air is escaping threw the coil area. Sorry you got some juice threw the tube but at least its working :) -

Kblaz if your still getting dry hits let it sit than try it again this time give it a couple fast hard pulls if your still getting bubbles it might take a couple of times -

Try taking a couple of primer puffs with out pushing the button and see if you can get a couple of bubbles to come up from the bottom and see if that helps , when letting them sit than refilling sometimes you get an air pocket at the coil taking a couple of draws to get the liquid to push that... -

My first one (c8) didn't last long but the 2 nd one has been working like a champ and its a version 1 no leaks at all and have been taking it out and about has'nt leaked or dumped so first impressions didn't repete with this one -
