Success! First DIY attempt - Notes And Links Included - hopefully this helps someone else!

Sounds nice :) Remind me, Laphroaig is a little bit to the peaty and smoky side when it comes to whiskys, right? Not a smoke/peat bomb, but close? I'm just pondering why the combination of whisky and menthol doesn't make me want to gag just to think about it, and maybe it is the smoke/peat...

    Vinegar?

Nice post, Fernand, that you. It is my impression from reading through a lot of very chemist-dominated threads (and understanding about 60% of it) that pH-regulating the juice to the point that some of the nicotine is bound in salts doesn't really affect the effect of the nicotine. The idea...

    Coffee flavor?

My hero! I have been so curious about this, but have hardly even cracked open my bottle of coffee flavouring, so this is a bit down on the list. My guess is that a flavouring made from instant coffee might in fact be kinder to atties than an infusion made from regular ground coffee -...

    salty taste

Ehum, str8tv8ping, did you miss the part about normal saline being used for medical inhalation purposes? But I suspect that a physiological saline solution probably wouldn't give a salty taste (especially not when combined with other ingredients), you would need something more concentrated than...

    salty taste

Not being a fan of pop corn, I started thinking about this more in the abstract: What would the counter-arguments be to adding some salt water to your juices? From a health perspective inhalations of salt vapour is something very old and reasonably safe (from "that fresh sea air" to salt mines...

    Color change curiosity

I think I read somewhere (sorry, I don't remember where) that vanillin + nicotine = pink.

    dropper bottles

Agree. But once you have your mix, a 1ml or 2 ml syringe is very good for sucking it all up. And if you stick a needle (18G, or even 20 or 22 is fine) on it you have a very nice and precise tool for tasting your new mix by dripping and wasting an absolute minimum (or, of course, fill a carto).

Placebo effect - or do I have something interesting here?

OK, now I have processed the glycerines and the water - unremarkable, filtered nicely through some cotton wool in a syringe. Got 4ml of the VG, and around 8-9 ml of the Aq. glyr. and water based extractions. They are now resting in their own small bottles. But then we come to the alcohols, and...

First extraction tastes like black tea and crap

My first extraction was the innards of one weird cigarillo (brand "Partner", bought in Riga, Latvia, manufactured in Indonesia) in, let me see, 20ml PGA, 10 ml distilled water and 2 ml VG. It has a very mild taste, and is very nice to vape at about 18% in 50/50 PG/VG. I've also been putting in a...

Placebo effect - or do I have something interesting here?

Oh dear, I am *so* not a person that is made for lab work or other things that require dexterity and precision. After lots of spillage (those precious few drops!) and cursing I managed to get the liquid out of the mugs and into glasses: Unfortunately quite a few pieces of tobacco slipped...

Placebo effect - or do I have something interesting here?

So day before yesterday I did this: Initially I placed the tray on top of a radiator for a few hours - a cosy 35-38 degrees Celsius. Then the tray stood for approx. 36 hours in the coldish room temperature (the cold snap in combination with our very draughty windows means it is 17-19 degrees...

    Vinegar?

This would fabulous. Your results on vendor juices (7, 7, ~7.5-8 - iirc) makes me suspect that the result before and after lemon juice will be very close or identical. It would be nice if I was wrong, because that would mean using PH-paper would be a good aide in mixing. But I think we...

European DIY people? Where do you buy your stuff?

Thanks! This was one I didn't know about. And the customs/post in Sweden & the Netherlands seems to be a bit laxer than here (at least from what I've heard) - lucky you! (Not that I actually mind the principle so much - it's just that I think a more suitable limit for when they start demanding...

European DIY people? Where do you buy your stuff?

Have you ordered nic-liquid from them? It seems quite expensive to me, and I don't understand why there is water in all their unflavoureds.

European DIY people? Where do you buy your stuff?

Can you tell me a bit more about Inawera's base-liquids? I am a bit intrigued by their flavoured bases (neutral tobacco and "dirty" iirc). And what about their tobacco-flavourings? They have so many that it is hard to choose! How much is the shipping at Inawera? Thanks. I looked at it, but I...

    Finetuning my next blend

I couldn't really wait, so I did already on Monday evening add 3 more drops of the vinegar to the 8.8ml (about -ish)of the main blend that was left after my initial sampling. Which would bring the total amount of vinegar to about 4-5 drops for 10ml. Yesterday, Thursday, I sampled it again, the...

Placebo effect - or do I have something interesting here?

So, I am thinking about setting up a small experiment with different solvents to try to get to the bottom of how I got this "nice something". On re-reading some old threads it seems to me that PG is probably not getting anything but colour and maybe some flavour (& fantastic scent!) out of the...

    maltol vs ethyl maltol

I have no idea, but since they have different e-numbers I am pretty sure they are not identical, regardless of whether they are sold as crystals or already in a solution.

Looking for someone's proven recipe using these flavors (tobacco)

I am far too inexperienced to be able to help much, but this I know: - M-type is very, very potent and dominating. I have used it at 3 drops per 10ml and at 1 drop per 10ml. Both were OK to good (very little other flavouring - but then I am ridiculously sensitive, have to cut commercial tobacco...

    Vinegar?

I believe I have read here somewhere that what is sold in the US as "concentrated lemon juice" is actually pretty pure diluted citric acid. The lemon juice sold here in Finland is more like what you describe, and I find it so cloudy that I haven't used it in any juice. Instead I bought some...
