    Depending on your tanks the new enclosed coils may not fit but you can do the same with the older heads/tanks it is easier with the older style as the top chimney comes off easier.

    I use 28 gauge kanthal for building my coils but you can use whatever you are comfy able with to build the coil to the resistance you require
