As long as I keep polish on mine, they don't break. I had been wanting to get acrylic overlay on mine, but I don't think I need it now. These Nostalgic nail lacquer polishes I have are a jelly formula. They layer on somewhat thick. My most recent mani is 4 layers of polish plus a top coat...- pringles13
