    Townhall calls out Rockefeller Circus

While I can't hope to compete with Kent C, DC2, or wv2win in breadth or depth of knowledge, I did spend a pleasant hour this morning browsing quotation sites looking for "that" quote and came up with the following:

FDA Regulation, Big Tobacco, and Pending Bond Defaults

Without going back and reading the background and legal documentation of the MSA, it seems to me the issues w/ ecigs can't be compared (legally) to the issues with the tobacco industry, so would the PTB be able to make a case for a new ecig MSA? (Of course, that probably won't stop them from...

    Surprising places you can vape.

I almost never* vape in a designated smoking area, so as not to confuse bystanders. (*Except when I'm with smoking friends.) I have made it a habit lately to always have an ecig in my hand when I go out, even when I have no intention to use it. So far, no one has stopped me to ask about it, but...

White House Weakens Proposed FDA E-Cigarette Regulations

Not a direct quote from the proposed rule, but FDA does specify any part or component that is intended for use as part of an electric cigarette, or some such language. As I read it, this leaves the door open for them to regulate tanks, attys, batteries, etc.

    Townhall calls out Rockefeller Circus

A scifi short story by Robert Heinlein was based on the political system operating in a future United States. A group of officials had the job of finding, among the general populace, the person who *least* wanted to hold a public office. That person was led kicking and screaming into the office...

    Townhall calls out Rockefeller Circus

May we safely assume, then, that there are no cherry, chocolate, peach, or vanilla candies in Rockefeller's Senate-floor Candy Desk? (BTW, I was vaping Peach Keen while watching the hearing. Had a good laugh when he said that.)

White House Weakens Proposed FDA E-Cigarette Regulations

Exactly, CabinetGuyScott. We will never be "out of the woods" as long as FDA has regulatory authority over ecigs and its CTP Special Advisory Committee and senior staff are composed of anti-ecig people. I credit at least part of OMB's "corrective measures" to the meeting our informed...

Congresswoman introducing bill to ban flavors in e-cigs | The Verge

I did a search this morning on Speier's bill to see if the full text has been posted yet, and now I'm confused (possibly simply because it's morning, but more probably because of the way our government and members of Congress work). My search on govtrack.us was for "speier cigarette," and all I...

Congresswoman Jackie Speire has an anti-ecig article on the SFGate

When you read these lists of contributors, bear in mind that the category "lawyers and lawfirms" is most often populated by lobbyists*, and remember which industry spends $billions to hire lobbyists. Just sayin'. I'm also curious about Speier's legislative history. Nowhere on her website could...

FDA Regulation, Big Tobacco, and Pending Bond Defaults

So. Another point on the Follow the Money map. We've seen several (quite a few, actually) articles pointing out the states' dependence on Master Settlement dollars as a reason they're going after ecigs, but this is the first time I'm hearing about "tobacco bonds." Another good example of how...

(California) Fight for Your Right to ‪#‎Vape‬ - Daily Action Plan for Tuesday, 06.24.14

I'm halfway through. Now I'm going to go learn how to attach a picture to the rest of the tweets. Good idea, Ken! (Oh, and I think I forgot to post on yesterday's thread, but I tweeted those too.)

FDA June 2014 GAO report on FDA Tobacco Product Regulation

I feel your pain! Just spent half an hour or so going through the report to try and pull out some key pages, and no. Couldn't do it. The section starting on p. 35 (FDA Encountered Challenges As It Established CTP, Including Setting Review Time Frames), and Appendix 1 (Summary of Center for...

FDA Urgent Action Alert: Contact US Senate Commerce Committee before Wednesday at 2:30PM

I think he exists in some alternate dimension, where time is all messed up. Sometimes he's a little kid raiding the Senators' Candy Desk, and other times he's an adult well into senility. Even, I suppose, sometimes he's a rational adult... Cue fantasy: Staffers buzzing his receptionist as he...

UPDATE 6/25/14! NJ Gov. Chris Christie proposes taxing e-cigs at rate equal to $2.70/pack cigarette tax + other issues

While it's not a done deal yet (so no happy dance yet), this is *very* encouraging! Major kudos to the New Jersey Vapor Retailers Coalition, and to all the vapers who've contacted their representatives on behalf of vaping! Well done! and stay tuned...

Are you KIDDING ME??? Vape banned for 4th of July!

I'm reminded of Audrey Silk, founder of NYC CLASH and staunch defender of smokers in NYC (and everywhere else, as well, now, of vapers). She has cards printed with the message I like this! I may do something similar, like "Sorry, I'd love to stay, but not if I can't vape. So I'll take my...

My response from Sen Bill Nelson

I understand. But putting myself in the place of a really, really greedy tax-grabber, I'd think about calling it a Nicotine Tax, so that if and when some enterprising chemist comes up with a way to make synthetic nicotine, I could tax that as well. For now, of course, with FDA "deeming" ecigs to...
