I had the same problem with the adapter and talked with Blake via email - what worked for me was to use a brass drift and a small hammer on the pin of the adapter to "seat" it slightly deeper into the frame. Works fine now ... -

eBay for the rebuildables - look for "VVTF KABUKI RBA DECK NAUTILUS" The same search parameters will produce videos on YT explaining how to rebuild them - fiddly, and patience required, but you can build horizontal or vertical coils and wick to taste. -
