    As far as chromium I would be more concerned with the Kanthal wire we use than the stainless steel. The wire gets much hotter than the wick.

    One more thing if any of you try the wire rope wick. There is a tiny piece of nylon string in the center of the cable from amazon, to get rid of this you and untwist the cable take it out and then twist it back up.
