Koolada might still be worth checking out. It can give a kick or a bit of cooling sensation but isn't menthol or menthol flavored. I use it in some fruit flavors sometimes in small amounts when they need a little "oomph".
The other suggestions are really great though and I would pursue them first.
Hang in there, and remember your choice if juice is just as important as your delivery method. If it doesn't get easier for you, you may want to look at adjusting your flavor or nic level. Transitioning for me at first wasn't easy either, but finding a really satisfying vape made all the difference.
