How would you like a $4,000 device?

I believe it's because at 5mW or lower, the human blink response happens before the laser can cause damage. Higher than that, they can do damage before your body can react to the light. Lots of gadget freaks have a high disposable income.

    Want to do a MOD...

Okay, just remember that the one I linked to on DX is about 50mm long. The first battery you linked to was 65mm. Make sure you go with the right size for your mod.

    What are these batteries?

Hey, it's not my chart! To address the original post, though, you can get some information from the battery numbers. An 18650 is 18mm in diameter and 65mm long. A 16340 would be 16mm in diameter and 34mm long. They will generally be 3.7v, but sometimes 3.6v or 3.0v (and very rarely 3.2v...so I...

    Want to do a MOD...

No, that's a shorter battery (about 50mm long). If you want the 65mm length in a protected version, look here. If you actually needed the shorter one, the ones you linked to will work just fine. I've used them myself with no problems. You can get them much cheaper here, though.

How would you like a $4,000 device?

It was my understanding that you just can't buy them, but you can own them. You can also buy (again, in my limited understanding of this topic) the parts and build one of your own that is greater than 5mW. As I said, though, this isn't an area where I have a great deal of knowledge, and I could...

    What are these batteries?

It does say on the chart that numbers are approximate, and that manufacturers often over-rate their batteries.

Is there a better option for 5v power regulation?

Agreed. Also, I feel that if they're already giving me something at no charge, I'm not going to shaft them with an even larger cost to do so.

So what batteries are out there?

PCB means protected. But just because a battery is protected, doesn't mean it's the same kind of protected as another one. There's protection from overcharging, over discharging, and short circuit, that I know about. Some protected batteries have all three, some don't.

I'm using the M, and I vaporize pretty much nonstop when I'm not at work. Thanks! :-) I'm glad to hear it's not just me. If I recall correctly, the documentation indicated that the K was 5v and 750mAh while the M was 5.2v and 650mAh. I'll check again when I'm at my desk, and not a tiny...

    How to make USB Passthrough?

Check for what, exactly? Continuity? My old analog multimeter is pretty much junk for checking anything else at these voltages. I'm waiting for more cash before buying a decent digital one. It does have a connection at all expected points.

Just timed it, and I'm definitely only getting an hour of use. Mine uses the PPUMINI-M, though, and I think that model only has 650mAh. Still seems short, though. Two 900mAh 14500s on my 3.7v Nicostick usually get me through the day. Oh, and has anyone else seen the LED turn purple? Just...

Nope...missed that one. So how much battery life are you guys getting? Mine only lasts about an hour when unplugged. So it's basically a passthrough with a little bit of battery life.

For some reason, I can't seem to upload pictures to my album here, anymore. I created an account on a free image host: Casing open (looks like I let a dog chew it open...this part was hard for me): Then, I shaved the PCB as close as I could: Then I realized that all that shaving was...

So what batteries are out there?

There are many of those batteries (I think they are called "prismatic") out there, but this thread was just for the cylindrical batteries.

    HV with my silver bullet!!!

Complete agreement here...HV Nhaler juice in a high voltage mod is a killer combo. I'm jealous about the Silver Bullet, though....still saving up for mine. youngunner: Do you happen to have a RS part number for those cr123a + charger kits?

Oh, okay, I get it. You just soldered one to the underside, and one on top. In any case, I finally got mine working. I realized the problem, and it was a serious "duh" moment -- I hadn't put a charge in the unit, because it didn't make sense to charge it and then take it apart. So, I plugged it...

Is there a better option for 5v power regulation?

Are you talking about the BEC mentioned earlier? Because what you described sounds like what I read about pulse width modulation. By the way, I really appreciate you taking the time to answer these questions. I'm sure it's old hat for you, but I'm just learning about this stuff, and it's great...

    How to make USB Passthrough?

Hmm. I just hooked up a 5.2V 1000mA unit, and still get nothing. I've got a 7.5v 1000mA one...one would that be too much to try?

So where exactly did you connect your black wire? I just attached mine to the USB connection points. I soldered the whole thing together....and nothing. I have about 7 ohms resistance between the tip and ring of the atomizer when I press the switch.
