    You are out of luck with the Kanthal. Home Depot and the like does not carry Kanthal. You could pick up some cotton balls or cotton yarn though. You are stuck with mail order or paying high prices.

    SS mesh is conductive which is why you have to oxidize it. The oxidation stops the mesh from conducting electricity from the resistance wire.
