Yeah 5 seconds sounds way too long, especially with a cotton wick. Seams like that long with out some air would start burning. Have you tried firing it with no wick in it to see how fast your coil is heating? Not saying there is anything wrong with the way your doing it, just you might be...- Leithan

I just discoverd a new feature on my Provari
Honestly I haven't noticed a shorter batt life. I think in most cases when we wrap coils we use lower gauge wire, it takes a bit longer to heat up so we take longer pulls.
