Yeah, when I saw that I thought there might be an issue with it breaking wicks too easily, but if you look carefully, the negative screw will actually help keep the cap aligned properly (I think you clipped the right-hand part of the image - the negative screw lines up perfectly with the cap...- NamVet68

An alternative: If you have a CVS Pharmacy close by, get a bottle of their Pure Glycerin (USP)for about $5 for 6 oz (177ml). Great for vaping. RBA to recommend
Yup... I have all mine opened-up to about 1.5 mm. All you need is a small tapered rat-tail file (mouse tail?), and it only takes a couple of minutes. Just slowly rotate the file in the hole until its the size you want....but try it a few times...it's easy to make the hole too large. Just a few... -
RBA to recommend
Go with a SMOKtech RSST. It's an AC9 clone, but one of the better clones on the market right now. I have three of them myself (as well as an original AC9 & AGA-T2+) and they are an OUTSTANDING RBA for the money. Best bang for the buck out there ... IMHO Good luck... -

...what if you used something non-conductive to make the disk, like nylon or Delrin? ..if that won't work, how about making the disk a bit more undersized, and make a gasket to go around the perimeter of the disk - like a piece of split silicon tubing to make up the difference. If you are getting hot spots and metallic flavors, you have air-gaps between the wire & ceramic. Done even half-... correctly, you should have far fewer problems with hot-spots than with a stainless wick. A good pic would help. Make the wick just a tad smaller in diameter...they need just a bit of "wiggle room". An alternative is to cut a couple of fine vertical grooves on the wick surface for better air-exchange & wicking (the newer 1/8 FC2000 wicks are grooved for that reason). Sorry I can't help with the ZAP questions, but as for Teflon tape - it's completely inert & probably safer than using O-rings. It's not affected by heat or chemicals in any manner - even caustic chemicals, and it doesn't degrade. We used it over thirty years ago when I worked in a Hospital...- NamVet68
