    I use the saddle valve. But, I also put a drip tip in the carto while I'm punching the hole - I do this so that the carto doesn't warp like crazy, however I have never actually tried to punch holes in it without the drip tip but I've heard unsettling things of warping.

    This is exactly what happened to me. I ended up returning/exchanging the device and buying a 510 to 510 adapter so that i don't even have to look at the tube's post again.

    You could get a sealed 510 to 510 adapter. That way, no liquid should ever get on your post. That's the theory at least.

    Have you considered adjusting the way you work with tanks? Maybe you're overlooking some user error. The only thing a tank does is hold liquid. As long as it doesn't leak, I don't see how it can be responsible for dry hits or burnt taste.
