    Here's my 2 cents ... I make the same single coil every time ... 8 turns of Kanthal A1 - 27 AWG wrapped around a 2.8mm rod. This gets me between 1.25 and 1.30 ohms. I tried the coil both spaced and contact ... I can't tell any difference, so just stick to a contact coil out of habit...
