not to me...it comes set to medium but there are magnets to adjust it.. *btw...no tinkering...Zen says to leave it alone and vape..you rinse and dry burn coil when it gets gunky but don't change wick and coil for 1-2 mos...you'll know when it needs it... I like it because you do taste...- violetvoo
