    Are you using the same cartridge? Maybe the filler got a bit singed? I gave up on cartridges because I had some of these issues. It also seemed like it was always either dry or flooded.

    Sometimes, when the atty gets really hot, it can burn the cartridge. Look at the bottom edge of yours to see if it looks melted at all. I'm not talking about the filler, but the plastic part that slides down over the atomizer.

    That horrible smell is the primer. Take the atomizer off of the battery. Tuck the end with the threads into a paper towel and blow really, really hard through the open end. You'll see fluid comes out and is now on the paper. Keep doing that until you can't get anymore fluid out. Reassemble...
